Facial rejuvenation procedures are designed to slow or even reverse many common signs of aging; however, no matter how much we may want them to they cannot stop time entirely. It’s important to know what to expect both during and after facelift surgery—including how long the results are predicted to last—to form reasonable expectations as well as to enjoy the outcome as much as possible. Dr. W. Tracy Hankins and Dr. Samuel Sohn, our experienced plastic surgeons, will offer an individualized assessment of the anticipated length of benefits during your initial consultation. Nonetheless, it is impossible to determine precisely how long a facelift will last, and we can only offer a general time range to help you make an informed decision.
There are many factors that can affect how long your facelift will last. Some considerations will include the type of surgical technique used, current age, unique rate of aging, lifestyle habits, weight gain or loss, and overall general health. Younger skin tends to be more resilient, typically leading to longer-lasting effects. Therefore, depending on your age when you receive the procedure, your results may last longer or shorter than someone else who undergoes the same operation earlier or later in life. In many cases, a facelift can last between 5-10 years, with many variables determining the exact length of time. To extend the benefits of the procedure further, non-surgical enhancements, including dermal fillers and laser skin resurfacing, may be able to enhance both the immediate and long-term outcome. Your surgeon will be able to provide more information about your options during your consultation.
