We are pleased to hear that the FDA on October 23, 2013 has approved a new filler for use in correcting age-related volume loss in the cheeks, for patients over the age of 21. The product is known as Voluma XC, and has already been in use in 72 other countries around the world since 2009. It is a gel that is similar in consistency to the well known filler, Juvederm, but Voluma has been shown to be effective for up to two years! This significant longevity, coupled with the safe and well known product characteristics of other gel injectables, may prove to be a radically new addition to the long-lasting filler market. Much like it close cousin, Juvederm, the Voluma XC is combined with lidocaine to provide additional comfort during injection.
