There are so many types of fat reduction techniques available it’s easy to find the selection confusing. At Hankins & Sohn Plastic Surgery Associates, we offer a comprehensive range of options, including VASER® LipoSelection® and traditional tumescent liposuction. So what’s the difference between these two procedures? They are both designed to reduce stubborn pockets of fat using suction, but they diverge in their methods. Tumescent liposuction is the standard. In this operation, a cannula (tube) is inserted into the treatment area and used to physically break up fatty tissue, which is then suctioned out through the same tube. In VASERlipo®, also called VASER® LipoSelection®, ultrasonic energy is delivered into the tissue, liquefying the fat cells and typically causing less harm to the surrounding areas. Once again, cannulas are used to suction the fat out. Some regions of the body, and some types of fat, are better suited to removal with one modality or the other. During your initial consultation, our board certified plastic surgeon can determine which technique can help you achieve the body contour you desire.
