Dr. W. Tracy Hankins and Dr. Samuel Sohn contrast surgical facelift with non-surgical rejuvenation techniques, revealing the broad selection of available cosmetic procedures for facial aesthetic enhancement.
Las Vegas, NV—“It is possible to use non-surgical techniques to obtain good results without surgery,” reveals Dr. Samuel Sohn, a plastic surgeon in Las Vegas. He says that an essential part of every consultation on facial rejuvenation will be determining whether facelift surgery or minimally invasive approaches, such as cosmetic injectables, will offer the best possible results. For many patients, he and Dr. W. Tracy Hankins, his partner at their Las Vegas plastic surgery practice, note that the desire for limited downtime and an easy recovery process can be just as important as a successful outcome.
The first step in the initial consultation, Drs. Sohn and Hankins explain, is often dispelling the misconception that facelift surgery is the only option when considering facial cosmetic enhancement. Many patients ask whether they can get a facelift without surgery, and the surgeons indicate that for many individuals the answer will be yes. However, they add, there is a caveat: Minimally invasive techniques, including dermal fillers and collagen stimulators like Ultherapy®, cannot provide the same results as surgery, although they can typically offer natural-looking revitalization for people who are not ready for more dramatic measures.
Determining whether surgical or non-surgical facelift will be right for the patient occurs during the initial consultation, Dr. Hankins states. Several factors will be considered, he continues, including age, anatomic indicators, and the individual’s personal preference. He says that while facelift surgery can typically provide longer lasting effects, often up to ten to fifteen years in many cases, this method may also be too aggressive for certain people. To help extend the life of the outcome of either surgical or non-surgical rejuvenation, Dr. Sohn emphasizes, “Avoid sun exposure, absolutely no smoking, follow a proper skin care regimen, hydrate [the body], and maintain overall good physical health without significant weight fluctuations.”
Ultimately, Drs. Hankins and Sohn encourage patients considering facial cosmetic enhancement to research a board-certified plastic surgeon who offers a wide range of surgical and non-surgical options and will develop a customized treatment plan based on their unique anatomic needs and aesthetic goals. Dr. Sohn affirms, “No matter your age, ethnicity, or gender, there are many powerful ways to improve your appearance, whether surgical or non-surgical.”
