They are now offering Liposonix® treatments, an innovative non-surgical, non-invasive technique designed as an alternative to traditional liposuction to help patients eliminate up to an inch off of their abdomen or love handles.
Recently approved by the FDA, Liposonix® is one of the latest developments in body contouring and provides patients with a slimmer, firmer appearance. Liposonix® is a safe, non-surgical, non-invasive method of fat reduction devised to eliminate excess fat with high-intensity focused ultrasonic energy. Oftentimes, this excess fat is resistant to traditional means of weight loss such as diet and exercise.
According to Drs. Hankins and Sohn, the characteristics of an ideal Liposonix® patient include:
- Close to one’s target weight and size
- Possess at least one extra inch of fat on the treatment area
- Maintain a body mass index of 30 or less
At Hankins & Sohn Plastic Surgery, the most common treatment areas for Liposonix® patients are the abdomen and love handles to help them meet their body contouring goals.
During the Liposonix® procedure, high-intensity focused ultrasound waves target and eliminate the patient’s excess fat cells. Rather than target the skin, Liposonix® focuses its aim on the patient’s subcutaneous fat. Since the procedure is nonsurgical, these cells are broken up and destroyed with ultrasound waves so the patient’s body will permanently filter out and remove the disrupted fat cells through natural processes. The tissue surrounding the targeted fat cells is left unharmed due to the fact that the ultrasound energy is focused 1-2 centimeters below the skin’s surface. Drs. Hankins and Sohn note that a Liposonix® treatment typically lasts one hour, though the size of the treatment area may cause this time to fluctuate.
The patients of Drs. Hankins and Sohn’s Las Vegas plastic surgery practice usually describe a cold, prickling, tingling, or warm sensation during their Liposonix® treatment. While some patients have experienced temporary and minor bruising, redness or swelling, many patients describe only mild discomfort as a result of the procedure. Some patients may wear a compression garment a few days following the procedure to assist in the reduction of swelling and help alleviate any discomfort. Liposonix® provides results that are visible almost immediately, though patients tend to see the full extent of their results 8-12 weeks after the procedure, when the body has been able to naturally dispose of the destroyed fat tissue.
