If you’ve decided to have browlift surgery you are probably very excited to see the benefits as quickly as possible. Before you can see the results, however, you must fully recover from the operation. Knowing in advance what to expect during this healing process can help you reduce downtime and obtain a better outcome. Whether Dr. W. Tracy Hankins or Dr. Samuel M. Sohn completes the procedure, we will make sure you fully understand what to expect during recovery, as well as what you can do to help speed the process along in a safe and effective manner.
Endoscopic browlift and traditional coronal or hairline browlift surgery take approximately one hour to complete. General anesthesia typically will be used, and you should awaken with compression garments wrapped around your forehead. These bandages will help to reduce swelling, bruising, and the risk of bleeding, so you should be careful to keep them on (except when showering), and keep your head elevated when lying down or resting. You should also plan to take between one to two weeks off from work while you heal, and Dr. Hankins or Dr. Sohn will let you know when you can return to your normal daily routine. This timeframe may change depending on whether you underwent one or more procedures. In many cases, patients like to combine browlift surgery with facelift or eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) for more comprehensive rejuvenation. Everyone’s rate of healing is unique, and you shouldn’t compare your progress to anyone else.
Some bruising and swelling is normal, and these effects can extend down to the bottom of the eyes. You may also feel numbness in the treated area, and this sensation can continue for up to several months. We utilize dissolvable materials and sutures to secure your tissue to the new, more youthful position, so these will not have to be removed. During healing, you should avoid strenuous activity for at least one month or as long as Dr. Hankins or Dr. Sohn recommend.
